Weekend Weather Spotlight: 9-16-22

Active weather is expected over parts of the country through the weekend with isolated to scattered showers and storm activity likely.

First, near the Gulf Coast, a stationary front will be hanging around today and Saturday before mainly affecting central and southern FL on Sunday. Isolated to scattered showers and storms are anticipated mainly along the Gulf coast and FL with more widespread activity possible at times in FL.

Heading to the west coast a trough will continue to slowly move towards this region through the weekend with a closed upper low potentially developing off the northern CA coast Saturday overnight/early Sunday. Precipitation chances could arrive in northern CA, OR, and WA by Saturday evening into Sunday. Bigger impacts from this feature will be further east into the northern Rockies, central and northern Plains, and Midwest where southwest upper flow will be in place. A series of disturbances will track through these regions within this flow leading to isolated shower and storm activity. A stronger type disturbance is expected to develop each of the next afternoon/evenings, and areas in the path of these will have increased chances. A few severe storms will be possible as well, especially this evening near the NE/SD border, then confidence and uncertainty develop into the weekend further east.
