Weekend Weather Spotlight: 7-2-21
Phil Genskow

The weather pattern across the country will see a high-pressure system moving from the Midwest to the Mid-South with a frontal boundary around the periphery through the weekend. The focal point for showers and storms will be around this front as well as a pair of troughs one on the east side and one on the west. The best chances will be mainly across the South and Northeast, and then lesser chances will be in the Rockies and High Plains. The good news is that no severe weather is expected, however, the bad news is that much-needed rainfall will be mostly absent in areas suffering from drought conditions including the Dakotas, MN, northern IA, and southern WI. Areas from southeast AZ east to northern FL north to the eastern Carolinas and New England will have a chance at getting over an inch of rainfall through Sunday.

Eyes will be on the tropics into the new week as Tropical Storm Elsa will threaten the Gulf Coast of FL by Tuesday and Wednesday with a chance at becoming a hurricane before landfall.
