Weekend Weather Spotlight: 8-12-22

Several areas of showers and a few storms are expected in the country through the weekend, but not much if any severe weather is expected.

First, a front will begin draped from central TX to the Carolinas today and by Sunday it will be draped from extreme south TX to FL. This front will be the focal point for showers and storms with heavy rain possible, but severe storm chances are very low. Today chances will be from SE TX to the Carolinas, Saturday from S TX to FL, and Sunday from extreme south TX to FL.

Next, on the back end of a ridge that will be in place over the Rockies and Plains, a monsoonal pattern will be present in parts of the west. Scattered showers and storms are likely within this pattern with heavy rain possible with any storm and flash flooding will be possible at times, especially in UT and AZ. The main activity is expected to be in UT, AZ, and WY with more isolated type chances for E NV, SE CA, MT, W NM, and W CO.

Finally, on the front end of the ridge disturbances will track through the Midwest and into the Ohio River Valley through the weekend. These disturbances will bring showers to the Midwest today and Saturday and then the Ohio River Valley on Sunday.
