US Weather Spotlight: 12-7-18

Storm system moves out of the southwest and into the southern Plains today producing rain, snow, and ice. Rain showers chances will gradually diminish this afternoon in southern CA and NV, this evening in AZ, and will continue in NM, TX, southern AR, and northern LA, MS, and AL. Some areas in southeastern NM and northwest TX could see freezing rain early before changing to rain and then back to freezing rain or snow later tonight with some ice and snow accumulation likely. Further east rain will become heavy at times in eastern TX, northwest LA, and southern AR where flood watches go in effect this afternoon.

Lake effect snows remain possible in the Great Lakes with several inches could accumulate near Houghton in the UP and an inch or two in northeastern OH, northwest PA, and southwest NY tonight.

A cold front builds into the northwest overnight bringing back the chance for precipitation in that region with rain for western WA and OR to northern CA and wintry precipitation in the Cascades.
