US Weather Spotlight: 10-30-18

Three low pressure systems affect the country today producing heavy and possible storms and heavy snow.

Two low pressure systems will affect areas from the southern Plains to the Midwest both along a cold front. One low pressure center will move from KS this morning to near the OK/AR border by Wednesday morning, and the second low moves from MN this morning to southern Ontario north of Toronto by Wednesday morning. Rain showers and even a few storms will develop in the vicinity of the cold front throughout the day with activity increasing into the evening and overnight. The greatest threat this evening is expected to be from northern MO to southern WI and will move east to include lower MI and northern IN late in the evening into the overnight. Heavy rain potential with widespread > 1 inch amounts by Wednesday morning will be in northern IL, southern WI and lower MI with lighter amounts expected further south and west all the way down to TX.

Another low pressure system is expected to move from the Four Corners region early today and into northern NM by Wednesday morning. This system will produce rain at the low elevations and snow in high elevations. Snow amounts by morning will range from 1-3 inches in areas such as Pueblo, Denver and Colorado Springs in CO to 4-8 inches in the Colorado Rockies and northeastern NM mountains.

Rain are expected to pick up greatly in the Pacific NW later tonight as more active weather from the Pacific Ocean builds into that region with the heaviest rain occurring along and to the east of I-5 in western WA and northwestern OR.
